Clydesdales grow more slowly than other horse breeds. The foals are not fully grown at four or five years, but only at seven or eight years. They weigh more than 1,000 kilos, almost as much as a small car. The horses are so strong that they can drag things much heavier than themselves. That is why they also need a lot of food and water. Every day they need 20 to 25 kilos of grain with minerals and vitamins and about 50 to 60 kilos of hay. Of course that makes them thirsty. Very thirsty. Clydesdales drink more than 100 liters of water every day.
