The Holsteiner is an extremely popular sport horse and is one of the oldest horse breeds in Germany. The Uetersen Monastery in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein has been breeding this breed since the 14th century. However, the first records of Holsteiners are much older, going back to the year 1225.
