The tiger stripes are as different and unique as our fingerprints. Even the skin underneath is striped. At first glance, the striking pattern hardly seems to be of any benefit. After all, the tiger doesn't want its prey to spot it right away. But when the tiger goes hunting in the evening twilight, the stripes are a perfect camouflage. They resemble the tall blades of grass moving in the wind or moving shadows. Unlike other "cats", the tiger likes to swim and swims well. The water does not offer many prey animals a safe haven.
